BONDI TO BRONTE WALK

There is a coastal pathway running all the way from Bondi to Bronte Beach- a popular route for exercise or leisure. Over at Bronte there is a large park, bbq's, picnic huts and a children's playground. There is also a café strip, serving breakfast and lunch. A couple of these cafes are also open for dinner on weekends, which is a local secret. We recommend Swell Bar.

Bronte is a popular destination on weekends especially when the weather is good, so if you want to guarantee a table for brekkie, or a picnic hut and bbq, get there early.

DANK ST, WATERLOO

Just south of Surry Hills, Dank St is a relatively new and much appreciated addition to the Sydney cultural scene. Set in a predominantly industrial area, the Dank Street strip has become a popular weekend destination for Sydneysiders with an appreciation for quality food and interesting art.

Begin with breakfast at Dank St Depot where you will find invariably good food and coffee.  A few doors up are a collection of galleries featuring a range of Australian paintings, photography, sculptures and installations. Each gallery offers something different and the heavy Australian focus makes for some good souvenirs.

Make sure you leave enough time (and room) for Fratelli Fresh- an old warehouse converted into every food lover's dream. Previously wholesaler only Fratelli Fresh is now open to the public, offering us the opportunity to buy produce that has before now only been available to Sydney's top restaurants.  With items like ox heart tomatoes, fresh garlic, cavallo nero, the freshest zucchini flowers and a wonderful selection of chilled fresh herbs-this is by far the best place to buy fruit and veg in Sydney. Fratelli Fresh also sells Italian cheese, sweet canned Italian tomatoes and a huge range of olives, olive oil, vinegar, anchovies, rice and pasta. The restaurant upstairs serves beautifully simple Italian dishes, not surprisingly produce driven. The salads are fantastic, as are the slow meat braises- we know a lot of hyperbole but this place is well and truly deserving of it.

DAY SPA

The Last Resort is an organic health spa at the north end of Bondi Beach.  They offer a full range of natural health care and wellbeing services, holistic beauty and spa treatments as well as organic food and beverages. Their treatments are amazing. We especially recommend the ‘Bondi Ocean Indulgence'- 2 hours of pampering bliss.

HARBOUR TRUST- PICNICS & WALKING TRACKS

After 100 years as a military depot, Georges Heights on the North Shore has recently been opened up to the public to be used as a walking track and picnic area. This is a pretty amazing site as it is as close to untouched harbour foreshore as you can get in Sydney. The views really are spectacular and well worth the trip over the bridge.

Getting There: Take the 380 or 382 bus to Circular Quay and then take a Ferry to Taronga Zoo. From here follow the signs to the Taronga Zoo to Balmoral Beach Walk. The track is 6km long, but there are plenty of places to stop along the way for a picnic. For more details visit www.harbourtrust.gov.au

YOGA BY THE SEA

Harmonise body, mind and soul in an oceanic setting...

The traditional art of YOGA has been practiced for 5000 years to relieve stress, expel negative energy, detoxify organs, build inner core strength, improve the nervous system and enhance wisdom, fitness and flexibility.
The series of stretching and 'prana' (breathing) exercises are designed to both challenge and relax, while stimulating focus, balance and positive life force. On a deeper level yoga is a state of being in which all apparent opposites, distinctions and states are reconciled. From this state of union we live without fragmentation or inner conflict. We are able to embrace our whole being from the surface to the depths, encompassing both our transient limitations and our perennial limitlessness. We honour and live from, by, and within our true nature. This is the key to a life of peace and contentment.
